Obituary for Lillian Mae Bakalyar

Worthington, MN

Lillian Mae Bakalyar, age 100, was born on May 19, 1917, in Jackson County, the daughter of Andrew and Susan (Matasovsky) Bakalyar. She grew up in Hunter Township, Jackson County, MN and attended School District 65. After the 8th grade, she worked as a housekeeper for many friends and families. Lillian also served as a caregiver under the Red Cross in Jackson County for old and young alike. She was a lifetime member of the Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church where she was baptized and confirmed. Here she taught Sunday school, bible study – release time, and belonged to many organizations in the church and community. Lillian enjoyed serving herself and others, baking wedding, anniversary, and birthday cakes for many. She moved to Worthington in the early 1980’s to serve as caregiver to her brother-in-law and sister, Bill and Ethel and she also cared for her brothers, Ted and Andy and sister, Susan. Lillian died on Monday, May 29, 2017, at the South Shore Care Center in Worthington, MN.
Lillian is survived by her brother, Carl (Arlene) Bakalyar of Preston, MN and many nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors. She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Susan; sisters, Anna, Margaret, Susan, and Ethel, and brothers, Tom, Andy, Ted, Larry, Art, George, Joe, and LeRoy.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2017, at 2:00 p.m., at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in rural Lakefield, MN, with Pastor Dale Hedstrom officiating. Burial will be in the Holy Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
Benson Funeral Home in Worthington is in charge of the arrangements.
