Obituary for William "Bill" Johnson

Worthington, Minnesota      William “Bill” Johnson, 94, was born on October 23, 1912, in Reading, Minnesota.  He was the son of Fred and Minnie Ackerman Johnson.     William married Lydia Braun on January 8, 1937, in Reading, Minnesota.  They farmed and lived near Reading for over 55 years, retiring in 1974.  William and Lydia were members of the Bethel Presbyterian Church in Reading.  He helped build the church in the early 1950’s.  William loved to travel.  He and Lydia drove to 48 states, Canada and Mexico.  William worked at Cargill Elevator in Worthington for several years.  He bought and sold cattle and cars and had a new car almost every year.  William was a wonderful grandpa and loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.  He was a devoted husband and father and will be dearly missed by his family.  William accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior.  He is now in heaven with his wife, Lydia, who died nine months ago.  William died on Saturday, November 18, 2006, at the South Shore Care Center in Worthington, Minnesota.     William is survived by his daughter and her husband, Sheryl and Arthur “Butch” Skinner, of Colorado Springs, Colorado; a son and his wife, Steven and Deborah Johnson, of Woodbury, Minnesota; six grandchildren, Chad, Stacy, Eric, Aaron, Jessica and Elizabeth; seven great grandchildren; three sisters, Margaret Harberts, Mary Braun and Mildred Onken, and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Lydia of 69 years, and his parents.     Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 21, 2006, at 2:30 p.m., at the Benson Funeral Home Chapel in Worthington, Minnesota, with the Rev. Les Winters officiating.  Casket bearers will be Duane Braun, Kevin Adolph, Keith Kruse, Michael Braun, Allen Onken, and Willis Adolph.  Burial will be in the Summit Lake Cemetery near Reading, Minnesota.  Visitation will be from 1-2 pm on Tuesday, with family time from 2-2:30 pm at Benson Funeral Home.  Benson Funeral Home is coordinating the arrangements.
