Obituary for Viola Larson

Worthington, Minnesota      Viola Larson, 107, was born on October 10, 1898, in Nobles County, Minnesota, the daughter of Lewis and Hersa Hardy Larson.  She was confirmed at the First Lutheran Church in Worthington in 1915.  Viola attended country school near her home and graduated from Worthington High School in 1917.  She then received her Normal school training in Worthington.  Viola married John Edward Larson on October 10, 1918, in Rockford, Illinois.  They settled in Rockford for a time and then moved back to Worthington in 1921.  They farmed until 1947, when they moved into Worthington.  John Edward passed away on September 7, 1977.  In 1992, she moved to the Meadows in Worthington.  Viola was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Worthington and active with the Ladies Aid.  She was also a 50+ year member of the Eastern Star and American Legion Auxiliary and her and her husband helped serve at the Canteen Depot during World War II.  She enjoyed traveling, including going to Sweden three times, playing cards, cooking, church activities, and her family and friends.  Viola passed away on Saturday, July 29, 2006, at the Worthington Regional Hospital in Worthington, Minnesota.     Viola is survived by five children, Russell (Margaret) Larson, of Pharr, Texas, Norman (Adeline) Larson, of Worthington, Roger (Marjorie) Larson, of Worthington, Marilyn (Bill) Peterson, of Gold Canyon, Arizona, and Marvin (Darlene) Larson, of Alexandria, Minnesota; twenty one grandchildren, and numerous great and great great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, Buryl, her parents, and three sisters.     Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, August 2, 2006, at 11:00 a.m., at the First Lutheran Church in Worthington, Minnesota, with the Rev. Mike Zaske officiating.  Viola’s grandchildren will serve as casket bearers.  Burial will be held prior to the service in the Worthington Cemetery.Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 1, 2006, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington, Minnesota.Family prefers memorials to the First Lutheran Church in Worthington Parish Visitors Fund.
