Obituary for Vernon Fritz Mews

Vern was a Christian.  He was a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.  He was a dedicated farmer that loved sports and cheering for the Twins, Vikings, Gophers & the Worthington Cubs and Trojans.  Vern graduated from Windom High School in 1953, attended Brookings College in 1954 and served in the Navy from 1956 – 1958.  Vernon worked at Swift Independent from 1984 to 1999 and farmed the land that he loved from 1960 until present day.  Vern was an active, contributing member in his Church, the Worthington Elks Lodge #2287 and the Round Lake American Legion Post 461. Vern died on Friday, September 20, 2013 at the Royal C. Johnson Veterans Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

He leaves to celebrate his life, his wife Marie, siblings, Henry, Irene, Darlene and Helen (Paul), two sons Jay (Becky) of St Paul, MN and Lorne of Eugene, OR, his step children Richard Netwal of Kansas City, MO, Beth (Mike) Allen of Clear Lake, MN, Don (Marlys) Wasmund of Worthington, MN, Dalen (Cathy) Wasmund of Apple Valley, MN and Londa (Tom) Schmitke of Faribault, MN and his precious grandchildren: Zach, Parker, Catherine, Evelyn, Josh, Adam, Katherine, Neil, Bryce, Ryan, Kia, Mark and Mary, other relatives and friends and many loving relatives in Germany.  Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, Fritz & Blondina, two wives, Muriel (Suttie) and Marj (Jeppesen Netwal), sister-in-law Delores and brother-in-law Reverend Fritz Wood. 

Visitation will be on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 from 5 – 8 p.m. at Benson Funeral Home in Worthington, MN.  Funeral service, with visitation one hour prior, on Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Worthington, MN with lunch to follow.  Internment to be held at Lakeview Cemetery in Windom, MN, immediately following lunch.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to First Lutheran Church in Worthington, MN or the American Cancer Society.
