Obituary for Verla Sasse

Brewster, MN

     Verla (Drake) Sasse, 88, of Brewster died Tuesday, October 5, 2010, at Lakeview Assisted Living in Heron Lake, MN.
     She was born August 24, 1922, in Floyd Township, O’Brien County (near Sheldon), IA, to Ernest and Frieda (Bottin) Drake.
     On April 26, 1942, Verla married Edward Bernard Sasse at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Worthington. After their marriage, the couple lived in Hersey Township, Brewster. Verla was a homemaker and farmer’s wife, assisting Edward with raising corn, soybeans, cattle, and pigs. She was blessed with a son, Edward Jr., in 1944 and another son, Randy, in 1962.
     Verla was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Worthington. She enjoyed spending time with family, reading, flower gardening, and bird watching.
She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, and husband.
     Verla is survived by her two sons, Edward Jr. (Patsy) of Vermillion, SD, and Randy (Darla) of Brewster, MN; seven grandchildren, Bobby Thompson (Pam), Angela Jackson, Pamela Garcia (Cirenio), Edward III (Tina), Ashleigh, Jacob, and Jared, and nine great-grandchildren, Ryan, Brittany, Aylissia, Ethan, Bethany, Alikah, Allurah, Leann, and Nikolas.
     Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 7, 2010, and from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 8, 2010, at the Benson Funeral Home Chapel in Worthington, MN. Funeral services will immediately follow at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 8, 2010, at the Benson Funeral Home Chapel in Worthington, MN, with Pastor Joe Behnke officiating. Burial will be in the Worthington Cemetery.
