Obituary for Va Thongvivong

Worthington, MN

Va Thongvivong, age 71, was born on May 10, 1946, in Savannakhet, Laos, the daughter of Thok and Houng Keovongxay. In 1962, Va married Ma Thongvivong and this marriage was blessed with four children. In January of 1980 the Thongvivong Family came to the United States through a sponsorship of the American Lutheran Church of Chandler. After spending several months in Chandler, the family moved to Worthington where Ma and Va settled with their family. They worked at the Campbell Soup Company together until May of 1997 when the plant closed. Va then worked for Gold-n-Plump in Luverne for a couple of years before retiring. Va enjoyed many things in life. She especially loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and was blessed to get to know her first great grandson, Hudson Lee, over the last 16 months. Va enjoyed walking with her neighbor and friend, Kome, each day while trying to remain physically active. She loved to cook, garden, go fishing, crochet and watch TV shows; some of her favorites being The Bold & The Beautiful, The Voice, and The Bachelor. Va also enjoyed teaching her granddaughter, Lexi, how to cook Lao dishes so that she is now able to carry on grandma’s love for cooking. Va or “Little Grandma” as she was known by her grandchildren was a kind and gentle soul. She smiled a lot, enjoyed her life and seldom complained about anything or anyone. Va passed away on Sunday, October 22, 2017, at the Sunset Hospice Cottage in Worthington, MN.
Va is survived by two brothers, Vane of Walworth, NY and Wane of Savannakhet, Laos; one sister, Veuy of Savannakhet, Laos; one daughter, Savivanh Ratsabouth and Toum of St. Bonifacius; three sons, Seng Thongvivong and Kelly of Windom, Korakahn Thongvivong and Laurel of Monticello, and Lei Thongvivong of Worthington; three granddaughters, Cynthia Ratsabouth of Los Angeles, CA, Kelsie Aamot and Shea of Eagle Lake, and Alexis Berkner and Eric of Mankato; two grandsons, Chin Ratsabouth of St. Bonifacius and Brandon Thongvivong of Windom, and one great grandson, Hudson Aamot. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ma Thongvivong; three sisters, Nouana, Nha, and Vai, and one brother, Titna.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 27, 2017, at 2:30 p.m., at the Benson Funeral Home Chapel in Worthington, MN, with Pastor Bailey Fossum officiating. Casket bearers will be Seng, Korakahn, Lei, Toum, Chin, and Brandon. Burial will be held in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Chandler, MN.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 26, 2017, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington.
