Obituary for Teresa Marie Stofferan

Loveland, CO

      Teresa ‘Terri’ Marie Stofferan, age 51, was born on June 4, 1963 in Worthington, MN to Vernon and Bonnie (White) Stofferan. She attended grade school in Worthington and Faribault, Minnesota. She graduated from Sibley High School in 1981 where she was very active in basketball, volleyball and softball. She attended Buena Vista University for one year and received her BS degree from South Dakota State University in 1985. In June of 1985 she was united in marriage to Loren (Pam) Colbeck. They have two daughters, Amanda and Jessica.

      Terri joined the 57th Transportation Detachment in Brookings in 1989 and shortly after was deployed to Operation Desert Storm in Saudi Arabia. She later moved to Rapid City, SD where she was employed by the National Guard. In 2003 she moved to Colorado and became a member of Faith Baptist Church in Longmont, CO.

      In 2009-2010 she was deployed to Kuwait. She returned and continued her advancement in her military career earning the rank of Major in the Wyoming National Guard. She later was employed by the State of Colorado as a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist. She had a passion for helping others and is remembered by friends and veterans by always putting them first. She also had a love for animals and especially her service dog, Kona.

      She excelled at her military career with many honors. Terri was a very decorated and devoted officer who served her country for over 25 years. Some of her honors include: Army commendation medal, national defense service medal, and Southwest Asia service medal with two bronze service stars.

      Her grandchildren, Kylie Marie and Bryane Caitlyn were the love of her life and she treasured the moments she spent with them.

     Terri died on Sunday, December 14, 2014, at the Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland, CO.

      She is survived by her two daughters, Amanda (Brandon) Hyman of Grafenwoehr, Germany and Jessica Colbeck of Sioux Falls, SD, and two granddaughters, Kylie and Bryane Hyman. She is also survived by her father, Vernon and step-mother, Jan; brother, Greg (Ann) and sister Cindy (Eric) Tigges, and step sisters, Jenny Mogen, Los Angeles, CA and Jayme (Justin) Semion. Teresa is survived by many aunts, uncles, a niece, and four nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, Bonnie, her sister, Tammy, and her grandparents.

      Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 22, 2014, at 10:30 a.m., at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sibley, IA, with Pastor Barbara Kopperud officiating.

      Following the ceremony the American Legion Club and VFW of Sibley will conduct military honor rights.

      Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 21, 2014, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington.
