Obituary for Sheila Fay Allen

Sibley, IA

Sheila Fay Allen, daughter of Marshall and Wanda (Brooks) Davidson, was born on February 15, 1961, in Dugway, UT. She grew up in Boulder City, NV, with her parents and two sisters. Sheila was involved in the Boulder City Rec swim team where she won many awards. Sheila also devoted her time to being a volunteer candy striper. She graduated from Boulder City High School in 1979. She attended college at the College of Southern Nevada for 2 years. Sheila spent a lot of time taking care of her mother that was sick. Sheila was united in marriage to Russell Allen on August 25, 1984, in Las Vegas, NV. Together they moved to Sibley, IA, where they began their life. Sheila spent many years taking care of her grandmother-in-law, raising her four children, bowling, helping out with Head start, and running their business, Midwest Engines. In 1996, Sheila was awarded a volunteer award by Governor Terry E. Branstad. On April 19, 2001, Sheila had been fighting alcoholism for years and finally made the choice to get help. The day she died she was just shy of 11 years and 6 months sober, she was very proud of this. Sheila devoted spare time to gardening, which included planting and selling vegetables at Sibley Super Foods for the Farmers Market. The most important thing to her was being there for her children and grandchildren. As her health started to decline, she spent most time at home helping watch and enjoying her nine grandchildren. Sheila loved to cook, listen to music, watch certain shows on TV, be with her dog Chloe, and lend an open ear. She was not just a mother to her own children but many more. Sheila died on Friday, October 12, 2012, at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, SD, with her husband of 28 years by her side.
Sheila is survived by her husband, Russell of Sibley, IA; children, Kimberly (Levi) Fest and grandchildren Alison, Nickalous, Cooper, and Alexander Fest of Heron Lake, MN, Kristin Bulman and grandchildren Lilyanna and Jordyn Bulman of Brewster, MN, Staff Srgt Jonathan Allen of Bellevue, NE, Robert Allen of Sibley, IA, and step daughter, Sally Allen (Jonah Poland) and grandchildren Jeven, Jeth, and Keayra Poland of Luverne, MN; sisters, Marsha (Terry) Buesgens of Clovis, NM and Sandra (Steve) Valderrama of Henderson, NV; mother-in-law, Aletha Allen of Makinen, MN; brothers-in-law, Randy, Rodney (Shamarie), Warren, Scott, Bradley, and Curtis Allen of northern, MN; sisters-in-law, Lori Humphreys (Jim) and Rudean (Bob) Keith of Makinen, MN, and numerous nieces and nephews.
