Obituary for Sarah Ruth Taylor

Sarah Ruth Welch was born February 17, 1907 at Parkston, South Dakota to Chasty V. and Bertha Sherk Welch. Her father died when she was 6 years old. She attended country school near her home through 8th grade. She continued her education at Springfield State Teacher's College, completing High School and preparing to teach concurrently. She taught in various rural schools for 9 years. On June 6, 1934, she and John S. Taylor were married at Ruth's mother's home in Parkston. They farmed at Milltown, South Dakota until 1943 when they moved to a farm near Parkston. In 1954, they moved to a farm near Brewster, MN and farmed there until they retired in 1970. In March, 1996, they moved to the Homestead Cooperative in Worthington. Ruth died Friday, February 19, 2010 at Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Fulda, MN.
Ruth's life was rich and full. Teaching was her lifelong passion. She was very active at First Presbyterian Church in Brewster, MN serving her Lord and Saviour in various teaching roles at every opportunity. She was always eager to learn new things. She enjoyed music and played her violin in various South Dakota orchestras. She loved spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed attending her grandchildren's activities and went on to attend her great grandchildren's activities as long as she could. She cared deeply about other people and was always ready to extend a helping hand.
Ruth is survived by her daughter, Shirley (Dale) Martin, Worthington, MN; grandchildren, Tom (Debra) Martin of Reading, MN, Sarah (Jeff) Tupper of Woodbury, MN, Ted (Sarah) Martin, Brewster, MN, Cindy Hommer, Fulda, MN; 8 great grandchildren, many neices and nephews, and many dear friends. She was preceeded in death by her husband of 75 years, John S. Taylor; her parents, her brothers, Joe and Clifford Welch and her sister, Nellie Ester.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 20, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at First Covenant Church in Worthington, MN with Pastor John Stewart and Pastor Kris Stewart officiating. Casket bearers will be Tom and Debra Martin, Sarah and Jeff Tupper, Ted and Sarah Martin, and Cindy Hommer. Burial will be in the Worthington Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
