Obituary for Ruth Kathryn Shuman

Ruth Kathryn (Scott) Shuman, age 83, of Elk Point, SD, passed away on Tuesday, April 7, 2020, at the Prairie Estates Care Facility. Ruth was born July 26, 1936, in Round Prairie Township in Todd County, the daughter of Anson and Genevieve (DeGriselles) Scott. Ruth graduated from Long Prairie High School and later moved to Worthington. There she met Chris Wibbens and they were married in 1960 and had two sons. They later divorced. During her time in Worthington, Ruth worked for Campbell Soup and the Marine Café. She later moved to North Sioux City and married Ralph White. He later died. Ruth stayed in Sioux City and wintered in Laughlin, NV where she met Robert Shuman. They married in June of 1995 and she resided in Keokuk, IA until Bob’s death in February of 2017. She then moved back to North Sioux City to be closer to her sons. She became a resident of Prairie Estates Care Facility in July of 2019. Ruth enjoyed bingo, gambling, playing games, and spending time with grandchildren.
Ruth is survived by her sons, Mark (Jenny) Wibbens of Worthington and Michael (Lois) Wibbens of North Sioux City, and daughter-in-law, Karen Kloeppner of St. Cloud. She was blessed with two grandsons and two granddaughters. Ruth is also survived by four sisters, Polly (Neal) Goertz of Lacrosse, WI, Betty Scott of Superior, WI, Midge Efner of Worthington, MN, and Mary (Lawrence) Weigers of Long Prairie, MN and sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Scott.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, brothers, Phil and David, and son, Victor.
No services will be held at this time.
Benson Funeral Home in Worthington is in charge of the arrangements.
