Obituary for Russell Henry Hawkinson

Russell Henry Hawkinson was born January 20, 1925 to Henry and Hazel (Peterson) Hawkinson in Bigelow Township.  He graduated from Worthington High School in 1943 the same year he entered the United States Army Airborne.  Russell was assigned to the 439th Troop Carrier Group 91st Squadron.  During WWII he obtained the rank of staff sergeant and served as crew chief of CGAA Waco gliders.  Russell obtained several decorations and citations for his service including six battle stars and honorable discharge.  
Russell was united in marriage to Adelia Wiese on January 5, 1949 at the First Lutheran Church in Worthington.  They were united in marriage for 64 years.  Russell was employed at Campbell Soup of Worthington for more than forty years and served there as Chief Boiler Engineer.
Russell is survived by his wife Adelia of Worthington, MN; daughters, Mary (Pete) Hansen of  Minneapolis, MN,  Patty Cowdin of Worthington, MN,  Becky Spaulding of Bloomington, MN,  Amy (Al) Ebbers of Worthington, MN; sons, Daniel with friend Doris of Fulda, MN, Roger (Jan) Lakefield, MN, and Alan of Edina, MN.  Grandchildren include Amber (Steve) Oryszczyn, Peter Hansen, Nathan Cowdin,  Jaimee (Ryan) Crowley, Bryan Cowdin,  Rachel Cowdin, Matthew (Shannon) Cowdin, Jennifer Walther, Allison Walther, Karissa Ebbers (fiancé Cody), Erin Ebbers, Sarah Ebbers, Chris Hawkinson, Jerrod (Lindsey) Schubert and Mara Hawkinson (fiancé Colton); Eight great grandchildren; brother John Hawkinson; good friend Bill Horak. Russell is preceded in death by his daughter Jeanie; parents,; sisters Violet, Myrtle, Betty, Maryls; brother Robert; granddaughter Angie and many other loved ones. Russell died on Thursday, June 27, 2013 at the Royal C. Johnson Veteran’s Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 am on Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at the First Lutheran Church in Worthington with Rev. Richard Ricker officiating. Burial with military rites will be at the Worthington Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-7 pm on Monday, July 1, 2013 at the Benson Funeral Home and also from 9:30 -10:15 am on Tuesday at the church.
Memorials will be donated to the Palliative Care Unit, Royal C. Johnson Veteran’s Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.
