Obituary for Rudolph Henry Heyen

Rushmore, MN

      Rudolph Heyen, age 91, was born on April 19, 1923, east of Round Lake in Jackson County, MN. He was the son of Ubbie and Reke (VanderWerf) Heyen. As a young boy, he moved with his family to Rushmore. As a teenager, he lived with and started working for Harold and Pauline Whitney as a hired farm hand. He continued to work for them until he retired and later moved into Rushmore. He moved into South Shore Care Center in Worthington in March of 2013. Rudolph led a simple life and was always helping everyone else. He enjoyed church, his tractors, driving others to events, and visiting about anything pertaining to the people and events of his beloved Rushmore community. Rudolph died on Monday, September 22, 2014, at the South Shore Care Center in Worthington, MN.

      Rudolph is survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by five sisters, Fannie, Martha, Louise, Grace, and Bertha, and three brothers, John Ellsworth, and Wilke.

      Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2014, at 11:00 a.m., at the American Lutheran Church in Worthington, MN, with Pastor Gary Andersen officiating. Burial will be in the Sunset Rest Cemetery near Rushmore, MN.

      Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2014, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., at the American Lutheran Church in Worthington.

      Benson Funeral Home in Worthington is in charge of the arrangements.
