Obituary for Robert George Duffy

Worthington, MN

     Robert George Duffy was born on June 20, 1925 in Omaha, Nebraska to parents Lawrence and Loretta (Carlon) Duffy. Duffy graduated from Lourdes Catholic High School in Albuquerque, New Mexico and attended Worthington Jr. College. At age 17, he enlisted in the United States Navy and was then transferred to the US 1st Marine Division, South Pacific as a pharmacist mate 3rd class in the South Pacific.
     On July 15, 1948, Robert married Audrey Roberts in Worthington, MN. They moved to Jackson, MN for 12 years. In 1960, they moved back to Worthington and opened (2) Duffy’s Cafés, one on Hwy 59 & 60 and another in downtown Worthington. For 10 years Duffy was a talented cook and excellent baker. In 1970, Duffy began working as a cable splicer for Central Telephone until his retirement in 1987.
     Duffy enjoyed reading, especially history. He loved music and was a talented craftsman spending time in his shop making miniature piano’s, watches, instruments, and beautiful birdhouses. His very favorite thing was spending time with his 3 grandsons. He said, many times, you know something Audrey, the best thing we did in our life was adopt David. Look what we have now, a great family!
     Duff is survived by his wife, Audrey Duffy, son, David (Pam) Duffy, grandsons, SSG Erik (Brittany) Duffy, Ethan Duffy and Mitchel Duffy and two beautiful great grandchildren, Troy David and Kadince Mae Duffy. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Jo Paul of Sante Fe, New Mexico.
     He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Patrick.
     Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at 10:30 a.m., at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Worthington, MN, with Father Jim Callahan officiating. Burial, with military rites, will be held in the Worthington Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
     A time with family and friends will be held on Wednesday, November 2, 2011, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Benson Funeral Home in Worthington is in charge of the arrangements.
