Obituary for Richard Adolph Ness

Worthington, Minnesota Richard Adolph Ness, 83, was born on September 9, 1922, in rural Revere, Minnesota, the son of Adolph and Clara Halverson Ness. He attended school in rural Revere, graduating from Walnut Grove High School in 1941. Richard married Fanchon Nystrom on February 1, 1947, at the Indian Lake Baptist Church in rural Worthington, Minnesota. After marriage, they farmed in rural Worthington for 16 years. He was supervisor for the ASCS office for a ten county area in southwest Minnesota, where he worked for eight years. They then moved to Bemidji, Minnesota, where he was supervisor for fourteen counties for the DNR, until his retirement in 1992. After retirement, they returned to Worthington to live. He was a member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Worthington. In earlier years he was active in politics, serving as president of Nobles County Farmers Union for ten years, and as chairman of the Nobles County DFL for six years. During his retirement, he kept a strict daily schedule for morning coffee, afternoon coffee, and evening coffee at various local restaurants. He loved his family and looked forward to times spent with his daughters, sons-in-law, and grandson. Richard died on Saturday May 13, 2006, at the Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Richard is survived by his wife, Fanchon, of Worthington, Minnesota; two daughters, Sheila (Gordon) Schultz, of Cary, Illinois, and Roxanne (Gregory) Stephan, of Wilmette, Illinois; one grandson, Hunter Schultz, of Cary, Illinois, and one sister, Elizabeth (Ernest) Bakken, of Walnut Grove, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Leighton Ness; his parents; twin sister, Ruth Moses; sister, Camilla Rupp, and brother, Joe Ness. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 17, 2006, at 10:30 a.m., at the First United Methodist Church in Worthington, Minnesota, with the Rev. Gordon J. Orde officiating. Casket bearers will be Hunter Schultz, Gordon Schultz, Gregory Stephan, and nephews, James Bakken, Kent Jeppesen, and Kris Jeppesen. Burial will be in the Indian Lake Baptist Church Cemetery near Worthington. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 16, 2006, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington and on Wednesday, May 17, 2006, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., at the First United Methodist Church in Worthingto
