Obituary for Raymond Ogg

Worthington, MN

Raymond “Sunray” Ogg died on Wednesday, August 10, 2011, at Crossroads Care Center in Worthington, MN. He was a man of many friends. Raymond Riley Ogg was born on April 21, 1931, in Worthington, MN, to Raymond and Blanche Ogg. Ray spent his youth in Flint, Michigan, where he was baptized into Christ Jesus as a young man. As an adult, he moved back to Worthington with his parents and became a member of the Worthington Christian Church. In Worthington, Ray enjoyed great camaraderie with over-the-road truck drivers through his prowess on the CB radio as “Sunray.” He loved to be invited on trucking excursions with many of his friends. An avid bicyclist, Ray never let bad weather keep him from biking to Perkins to meet friends for coffee. Making models was a favorite pastime all his life. Ray had an aluminum can recycling enterprise that helped keep Worthington a little more beautiful for decades. Ray also loved trains. He enjoyed time at the railroad tracks watching the trains and waving to the railroad men. He knew when they were scheduled to pass by and was acquainted with many of the engineers. Ray spent time working toward his GED along side his faithful friend Sally. Ray loved going to baseball games with his pal Chuck and anyone else who would take him. He was gifted at remembering baseball statistics. In recent years Ray loved his home and companions at the Prairie House. He enjoyed the goodwill of many friends and acquaintances in Worthington, because of his cheerful “sunny” personality. He will be missed.
Raymond is survived by his cousins Gwen Pfundt (Dale), Neva Schield (Muggs), Larry McKeever (Carol), Norma Boyer, other cousins and extended family members. He is also survived by his special friend Sally Fillmore and her family. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
A memorial service will be held at the Worthington Christian Church at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 20, 2011, with Pastor Ron Ahlgren officiating. Committal will be at the Worthington Cemetery. A fellowship luncheon will then be served at the church.

Memorials may be given or designated to the Prairie House, Compassionate Care Hospice, the Worthington Christian Church or the donor’s choice.

Benson Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
