Obituary for Raymond Nick Fisher

Worthington, Minnesota      Raymond Nick Fisher, 80, was born on October 29, 1926, in Lismore, Minnesota, the son of Nick and Jenny Peterni Fisher.  He received his education in Little Rock, Iowa.  Raymond married Shirley Sowles on September 11, 1948, in South Sioux City, Nebraska.  He served in the United States Army from 1944 to 1946, serving in the Philippines and Japan.  He worked for Grevens until 1952 and then for Worthington Ready Mix for 37 years, retiring in 1989.  Raymond and his wife enjoyed the past 17 years at the Big Foot Resort by Alexandria, Minnesota, where they made many new friends and enjoyed many happy days of fishing.  He was a member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Worthington.  Raymond became ill with cancer the end of January 2007 and spent his last days at the Royal C. Johnson’s Veterans Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where he died on Monday, April 9, 2007.     Raymond is survived by his wife, Shirley, of Worthington; four children, Mike Fisher, of Worthington, Sharon (Doug) Quiring, of Worthington, Keith (LaDonna) Fisher, of Worthington, and Jackie (Ken) Liepold, of Heron Lake, Minnesota; seven grandchildren, Doug (Erin) Fisher, Randy Liepold, Nicole (Greg) Kempema, Eric (Mikka) Liepold, Jerad (Devin)  Fisher, Jason (Nicki) Fisher, and Jenny Quiring; ten great grandchildren; one sister, Kathryn (John) Timmerman, of Sibley, Iowa, and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, and two brothers.     Memorial services will be held on Friday, April 13, 2007, at 1:30 p.m., at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Worthington, Minnesota, with the Rev. Robert Schulze officiating.  Raymond’s grandchildren will serve as honorary bearers.  Burial of his cremains, with military rites, will be held prior to the service in the Worthington Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, family prefers memorials to the American Cancer Society.  Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 12, 2007, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington.
