Obituary for Ralph William Kilker

Worthington, MN

      Ralph W. Kilker was born June 19, 1920, to Fred and Alma (Jahn) Kilker on a farm west of LeMars, IA. He married Geraldine Gordon on September 23, 1941 and lived in Worthington, MN. Three daughters were born to this union. Geraldine passed away March 2, 1979. On November 27, 1982, he married Mayme Ling Smith at the First Presbyterian Church in Round Lake, MN.

      Ralph worked seven years for Chris Ahlers as a mechanic. He then worked for thirty-one years for Old Home Bread on truck maintenance and retired in 1980. He loved camping and traveling. He and Mayme spent winters in Florida, Arizona and southern Texas. He also loved to fish and spent many hours fishing in his boat on Lake Okabena. He enjoyed playing pool with family at his home, with friends at the Senior Citizen Center and also played in a league at the Long Branch. He was granted an award for volunteer hours of work with the RSVP. Ralph was also a Deacon at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Worthington.

      Ralph passed away peacefully at the Crossroads Nursing Home on December 31, 2013.

      Ralph is survived by his wife, Mayme; two daughters, Margaret Browen, Worthington, Carol Paplow, Windom; many grand-children, great grand-children and great, great grand-children; step-son, Phil (Rita) Smith, Worthington; two step-daughters, Gloria (Don) Wiese, Paynesville, and Paulette (David) Daggett, Sioux Falls, SD; step-daughter, Marcia Smith, Bentonville, AR, and many step grand-children. He is also survived by half-brother, Don Kilker, Rogers, AR; two half-sisters, Betty Taarud, Worthington, Darlene Jungjohan, Lake Park, IA and sister-in-law, Lenora Kilker, Lakefield, and many nieces and nephews.

      Preceding Ralph in death were his parents (his mother in May, 1925), his step-mother, Clara Stevens Kilker; daughter, Mary Kilker Nau; grandson, Russell Nau; son-in-law, Dale Browen; step-son, Keith Smith and four brothers, Marvin, Lawrence, Herman and Raymond.

      Memorial services will be held on Friday, January 3, 2014, at 11:00 a.m., at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Worthington, MN, with Pastor Bonnie Roys officiating. Private family burial will be at a later date in the Worthington Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2014, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington, MN.
