Obituary for Rachel Christina Franzen

Brewster, MN

     Rachel Christina Franzen, 101, was born on October 14, 1909, in Paullina, IA. She was the daughter of Fred and Lilly (Dixon) Egdorf. Rachel married Frank Franzen on October 5, 1926, in Paullina. They farmed in Iowa for a few years before moving to a farm east of Worthington, MN. They then moved to a farm by Fulda, MN. The last place they lived was in Brewster, MN. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Brewster, the American Legion Auxiliary, and Brewster Senior Citizens. Keeping her hands busy was a must, baking cookies, and knitting or embroidery when she was able. She loved to play cards. Rachel died on Monday, February 28, 2011, at the Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Fulda, MN.
     Rachel is survived by seven children, Betty Getzel of Brewster, MN, Evelyn (Robert) Barnes of Fulda, MN, Bonnie Hedquist of Wilder, MN, Wayne (Twyla) Franzen of Woodbury, MN, Marlyse (Jerry) Frey of Hoyt Lakes, MN, Larry Franzen of Heber, AZ, and Richard (Marge) Franzen of Woodbury, MN; 26 grandchildren; 52 great grandchildren, and 10 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, one son, Loyd, her parents, three brothers, two sisters, two grandchildren, and two sons-in-law.
     Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 4, 2011, at 1:30 p.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brewster, MN, with Pastor David McDonald officiating. Casket bearers will be Rodney Getzel, Jason Getzel, Perry Schweigert, Les Speckmier, Todd Frey, and Troy Franzen. Burial will be in the Worthington Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 3, 2011, from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Brewster.

Benson Funeral Home in Worthington is in charge of the arrangements.
