Obituary for Olive E. Lang

Worthington, MN

Olive Elizabeth Lang, 93, was born on September 10, 1917, to Rosalia (Rathlisberger) and Charles Anton, and lived on a farm outside of Worthington, MN.
From day one, Olive was ambitious, creative and compassionate. Olive was the first in her family to graduate from high school. She then went to work at the Chevrolet Garage as an accountant, where her tax books were impeccable. She decided to work on another talent and went to a beauty school in Minneapolis, MN. When she completed her degree she returned to work at Ball’s Beauty Shop and Fiola’s Beauty Shop. Then off to Denver, CO to continue her craft. Upon returning to Worthington, she began her own beauty shop downtown call Ollee’s Beauty Shop. All her customers were served her delicious home-made goodies plus coffee, while their hair dried.
She met her man, Michael Ewald Lang, Sleepy Eye, MN, back from the military. They fell in love and married on May 24, 1949, at the Little Brown Church in the Vale.
They started Mike’s Spaghetti House that same year and later changed the name to Michael’s Restaurant. Olive was a terrific gardener and placed her lovely flowers in vases on the tables in the restaurant. She was gifted in interior design and also planned the house they lived in since Christmas of 1952.
Olive was a loving mother and wife, and in 1956 stopped beauty work to devote to family. She prepared the daily accounting, payroll and taxes for the restaurant, as well as an incredible seamstress who made costumes too. A member of the Emanuel United Methodist Church, she read her Bible daily until her eyes failed her.
Olive is survived by her husband, Michael of Worthington; one son, Larry Lang of Worthington, and two daughters, Michelle (Greg) Johnston of Miles City, MT and Linda Lang of Worthington. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and three sisters.
On Tuesday night, February 1, 2011, God brought Olive home. Now she can watch over us always. If you listen closely, you can hear the beautiful music from heaven, as Olive plays the piano.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 7, 2011, at 2:00 p.m., at the Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Worthington, MN, with Rev. Scott Peterson officiating. The organist will be Brenda DeSmith and vocalists will be Brenda DeSmith and Mrs. Jean Doeden. Casket bearers will be Larry Doeden, Roger Doeden, Donald Bixby, Melvin Janssen Jr., and Craig Anton. Burial will be in the Worthington Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Monday, February 7, 2011, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., at the Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Worthington.

Benson Funeral Home in Worthington is in charge of the arrangements.
