Obituary for Norman Charles Vogt

Worthington, MN

Norman Charles Vogt, age 71, died at his home on July 27, 2017. Norman was born on April 9, 1946 to Carl and Leona (Ullerich) Vogt in Worthington MN. Norman grew up on the family farm and graduated from Worthington High School in the class of 64. About a year after graduation, he enlisted in the Air Force and became a medic. Part of his tour was at a Medi Vac base in Japan, caring for the wounded soldiers from the Vietnam War. After his discharge, he attended Mankato State College for two years. From 1975-85, he farmed in partnership with his brother, raising hogs and dairy cattle. He also took part in the Vet’s Ag Program. In 1985, he started working for Jesco Electric, and was there until he retired in 2010.
Norman was lifetime member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Worthington and a member of the Brewster American Legion. He served 20 years as the treasurer of Seward Township. When he settled on his present acreage, he started raising and showing horses and going to horse shows in the area on the weekends. From his work at Jesco, he met and knew a lot of people and they all remember him for his sense of humor. He loved to cook and bake and was very good at it.
Norman is survived by his brother, Walter Vogt of Worthington, MN, and many cousins and second cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held on Monday, August 7, 2017, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington, MN and continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, August 8, 2017, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Worthington, MN, with Pastor Mark Schreiber officiating. Honorary bearers will be Ron Janssen, Norman Rehborg, Randy Muller, Jim Wildeman, Lenny Kruger, and Mark Knorr. Burial, with military rites, will be in the Worthington Cemetery.
