Obituary for Norma Jean Radenbaugh

Norma Jean Radenbaugh, 90, passed away on Monday, July 13, 2020, at the Good Samaritan Village in Sioux Falls, SD. She has been a resident with the Good Samaritan Village since August 2018. Norma Jean was born on Mother’s Day, May 11, 1930, in Worthington, MN. She was the only child of Marvin and Ida Thompson. She attended school and graduated with the class of 1948 from Worthington. During high school (1944) she was a baton majorette with the band. Norma Jean rode in the Turkey Day parade on the Hanson Furniture float in the late 40’s. Norma Jean met Wayne Radenbaugh in the housewares department at Montgomery Ward’s where they both worked. She worked for two years as a Dental Assistant for Dr. J.N. Casareto. Wayne and Norma Jean were married on March 20, 1949, at the First Lutheran Church in St. Peter, MN.
Norma Jean enjoyed camping during the 60’s and was part of the Nobles County Campers NCHA club. Norma Jean and Wayne enjoyed their lake home on Lake Mary in Alexandria, MN for many years before becoming Winter Texans in Alamo, TX. They wintered in Texas for 17 years. Norma Jean was a baptized and confirmed member of the First Lutheran Church in Worthington, MN where she was in Jr and Sr Choir, taught Sunday school, was a Youth Adviser and a member of the Church Women, and Hannah Circle. For the past two years she has enjoyed her visits with Pastor Renae with Peace Lutheran from Sioux Falls. She was active in the Worthington Garden Club for 47 years, and enjoyed many flower shows and displaying her beautiful flower arrangements at the annual Nobles County Fair. She was the Vice President of the Worthington Garden Club. She served in many different offices of the Garden Club, including the officer of the 4th District Horticulture Society and Superintendent of Floriculture at the Nobles County Fair. Flowers, gardening, fishing and the outdoors were a big passion for Norma Jean. Norma Jean and Wayne enjoyed making their own kitchen cabinets during a house renovation in the early 90’s. They also enjoyed making wooden crafts and selling them at craft shows. Norma Jean was also a Girl Scout Cookie Chairman, and a member of the Red Hat Society.
Norma Jean and Wayne enjoyed travelling throughout their years together in the US, Mexico, Alaska and Canada. They often would take a bus tour to see the country and visited Crailsheim, Germany and Europe twice. They were married for 65 years and 7 months before Wayne passed in 2014.
Those left to cherish Norma Jean’s memory are her two daughters, Sherry (Gary) Randgaard of Sioux Falls, SD and Peggy (Doug) Konold of Sioux Falls, SD; four grandchildren, Craig (Melissa) Randgaard of Worthington, MN, Chad Randgaard of Sioux Falls, SD, Becky (Rod) Ward of Sioux Falls, SD and Kelli (Josh) Fagerness of Sioux Falls, SD; nine great grandchildren, Katie Randgaard of Marshall, MN & Angie Randgaard of Worthington, MN, Ethen & Elsa Fagerness of Sioux Falls, SD, Cheyenne & Logan Ward of Sioux Falls, SD and Mason, Gauge and Austin Randgaard of Sioux Falls, SD; brother-in-law, Russel (Mary Jane) Radenbaugh of New Ulm, MN and many nieces and nephews.
Norma Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Ida Thompson, her beloved husband Wayne and one great granddaughter, Emmalynea Randgaard.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 20, 2020, from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m., at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington, MN. Private family services will be held with Pastor Jeanette McCormick officiating. Burial will be in the Worthington Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Most of all, Norma Jean was a loving housewife, wonderful mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She enjoyed spending time visiting with all her family. Her sense of humor, quick wit and deep love for her family will be greatly missed by all.
