Obituary for Norah Everding

Norah Everding, age 81, surrounded by family, went to be with her Lord and Saviour on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at the Sunset Hospice Cottage in Worthington, MN. Norah was born on September 5, 1939 in Worthington, MN, the daughter of Gilbert and Ella (Johnson) Berger. She grew up in Worthington, graduating from Worthington High School in 1957.
In 1959, Norah married Dale Everding and they had 61 beautiful years together. She was a longstanding member of Lakeside Church. She deeply loved the Lord and was a prayer warrior. She prayed faithfully for those she loved and would spend hours in worship and prayer. Norah’s days were filled with playing card games, word searches, talking on the phone, camping, grandkids and great-grandkids, singing lullabies, watching Wheel of Fortune, sitting by the fire pit, baking cookies, and sneaking crackers to her loyal companion, Duke. But her greatest love was her family. She was a dedicated mother and grandmother first and foremost.
Anyone who entered her home was loved as another grandchild and she was called “grandma” by many. She was happiest when surrounded by family and cherished every moment with them. She never missed one of her grandchildren’s or great-grandchildren’s band concerts, dance recitals, graduations, or sporting events. Nothing brought a smile to her face more quickly than a phone call or visit from family, especially from children or grandchildren.
Norah will forever be remembered by husband Dale, daughters Brenda Chanthalack, Kristine Everding, and Stacy Everding (Marco Calderon), grandchildren, Nicole Chanthalack (Minilik Mersha), Mahliet Mersha, Jordan Chanthalack (Halie Spessard), Nathan, Payton, Isaac, Kyla, Taya, Elias, Tavan, and Tyree Everding, Sugey Calderon, great-grandchildren, Kaden Chanthalack, Kiana, and Kamarah Mersha, Keegan Chanthalack, sisters in laws, Gladys Berger, Karmel Berger, Donna Berger, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, infant sister, Ella Lou, brothers, Merle, LeRoy, Edward, Gilbert Jr., Robert, and Thomas. Father in law and mother in law William and Ella Everding and in-laws Patricia Berger, Harvey and Jenny Everding, Clarence and Violet Everding, Donald and Elaine Everding, Gladys and Bryant Matthews, Evelyn and Jim O’Brien.
We will forever miss her waving goodbye at the window, “quick” phone calls, loving nicknames, singing “You Are My Sunshine”, quick wit, insistence of family photos at every event, playing Dominoes and Uno and calling us “dirty rats”, warm and comforting smile when we walk in the door, letting us eat as much candy as we wanted, sense of humor, playing “Monkey in the Middle” until she couldn’t use her arm anymore, many sleepovers, how she made ramen noodles, and all the ways she made sure everyone was taken care of. Our family was blessed to have been on the receiving end of her love.
Friends and family wishing to honor Norah are invited to make a donation in her name to Sunset Hospice Cottage in Worthington, MN.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Benson Funeral Home in Worthington is in charge of the arrangements.
