Obituary for Nellie Kathleen Johnson

Worthington, MN

      Nellie Kathleen “Sue” Johnson, nee Silvis, age 85, was born on December 10, 1927 in Rock Valley, IA, the daughter of Edward and Gertrude (VandenBosch) Silvis. She graduated from Worthington High School. Nellie “Sue” was united in marriage to David H. Johnson on April 24, 1947 in Bigelow, MN. A homemaker and mother for 65 years, she also found time to be a secretary in the City of Worthington Engineer’s office with other duties as specified, until her retirement in 1992. Nellie was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed her family and especially her great granddaughters. Nellie “Sue” passed away on Wednesday, October 9, 2013, at the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD.
      Nellie “Sue” is survived by her children, Wayne (special friend Kathy) of Worthington, MN, Jolene (Phil) Yenor of Blaine, MN, Gary (Kristin) of New Brighton, MN and Don of Worthington, MN; four grandchildren, David (Elexis) Corgan, Emily (Aaron) Sasse, Sarah (fiancé John) Johnson and Anna Johnson; two great grandchildren, Aurora Corgan and Sierra Sasse; a sister, Loretta (Richard) McClain of Harris, IA and sister-in-law, Grace Silvis of Bigelow, MN. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Johnson; her parents; two brothers, Leonard and Roger Silvis and one sister, Dorothy Folkersma.
      Memorial services will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2013, at 10:00 a.m., at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Worthington, MN, with Pastor Bonnie Roys officiating. Burial will be in the Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN at a later date.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 25, 2013, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with family present from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington.
