Obituary for Neil Kempema

Corneilus (Neil) Kempema, age 91, was born on May 31, 1930, in Edgerton, MN, the son of Ray and Anna (DePorter) Kempema. Neil married Darlene Van Putten on August 10, 1951, in Reading, MN. After serving in the United States Army during the Korean War, they moved to Norwalk, CA for 20 years. They returned to Worthington and operated a bus company until his retirement in 1995. He was a member of the Christian Reformed Church all of his life. Neil passed away on Sunday, June 13, 2021, at the Minnesota Veteran’s Home in Luverne, MN.
Neil is survived by his wife, Darlene; three children, Connie (Hank) Vander Naald of Huntington Beach, CA, Randall Kempema of Worthington, MN, and Donna (David) Bootsma of Harris, IA; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren, and his sister, Julie Borst. He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Ed, Joe, Ted, and Ray.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 26, 2021, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., followed by memorial services at 2:00 p.m. with military rites following services at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington, MN. Burial will be held at a later date in the Sioux Falls National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Minnesota Veteran’s Home in Luverne, MN.
Benson Funeral Home in Worthington is in charge of the arrangements.
