Obituary for Myrtle Irene Adolph

Worthington, MN

     Myrtle Irene (Nelson) Adolph, 81, was born on December 11, 1930 in Barnum, MN. She was the daughter of Christian and Ruth (Schwoch) Nelson. Myrtle was raised on the family farm and attended Central Grade School in rural Barnum. She graduated from Barnum High School, was active in the band as a self-taught drummer. She was also active in 4-H showing prize winning sheep.
     Myrtle was united in marriage to her loving husband of 61 years on July 6, 1950 in Barnum, MN. They lived in Ocean Side, CA from 1952 until 1954 while Lyle served in the U.S. Marine Corp and Myrtle worked at the Navel Exchange. They built their family home in rural Worthington after returning from the service. She was a hard working farm wife helping in the field, doing chores, and gardening beside her husband. Myrtle loved to bake and knit as well as tending to her many flowers & plants. She looked forward to the Nobles County Fair each year where she won many championship ribbons and awards for her baking, canning, knitting and vegetable/flower gardening exhibits. She was a member of the Church of the Brethren. Myrtle treasured her family and times that everyone was home together.
     Myrtle went to be with the Lord on April 16, 2012 in the arms of her loving husband at their home in Worthington. She is survived by her husband, Lyle of Worthington, MN; children, Gale (Pearl Seery) Adolph of Odessa, MN, Linda Sanchez of Worthington, MN, Eldon (Michelle) Adolph of New Market, MN and Krista (Dale) Hanson of Valley Springs, SD; 10 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; sister, Viola Lursen of Worthington, MN; brothers-in-law, Willis (Marvella) Adolph of Worthington, MN and Myron (Janet) Adolph of Worthington, MN and sister-in-law, Carol (Terry) Hanna of Liberty, MO. She was preceded in death by her parents, Christian and Ruth (Schwoch) Nelson; sisters, Marian Patterson, Dorothy Adolph and Margaret Nelson and brothers-in-law, Carl Patterson, Alfred Adolph and Clarence Lursen.
     Memorial services will be held on Thursday, April 19, 2012, at 2:00 p.m., at the Church of the Brethren in rural Worthington, with Paul Gonzalez officiating. Private family burial will be held in the Elk Brethren Cemetery near Worthington.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 18, 2012, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington, MN.

Memorials may be directed to Compassionate Care Hospice Foundation, Gideon International, or Heifer Project International.
