Obituary for Milton James Fellows

Worthington, MN

     Milton James “Jim” Fellows, 86, was born on July 4, 1924, in Nobles County, MN, the son of George and Elsie (Henningsen) Fellows. He attended country school for eight years, graduated from Worthington High School in 1941, and attended one semester at the University of Minnesota School of Agriculture. Jim served for two years in the United States Army in the Pacific Theater and then returned to start farming. Jim married Jean Pfeil on November 23, 1951, in Worthington, MN, and had three sons, Roger, Richard, and Gary. Jim died on Monday, September 13, 2010, at his residence in Worthington, MN.
     Jim is survived by his wife, Jean of Worthington, MN; three sons, Roger (Lynn) Fellows of Maple Grove, MN, Richard (Bethani) Fellows of Worthington, MN, and Gary (Elaine) Fellows of Apex, NC; nine grandchildren, Elia, Kelsey, Matthew, Caleb, Sarah, Zachary, Elizabeth, Samuel, and Alexandra, and two great grandchildren, Will and Gracia. He was preceded in death by his brother, Byron Fellows and two sisters, Lois Hanson and Phyllis Holdt.
     Jim was an active member and served on many committees of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Worthington. He was active in many organizations on the local, state, and national levels. Jim served on the Bigelow Township Board, Okabena Ocheda Watershed Board, SW Regional Environmental Board, Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, nine years on the Worthington School Board, five years on SW Educational Cooperative Service Unit, four years on Minnesota State Board of Teaching, many years on Advisory Committees with the University of Minnesota Institute of Agriculture, FFA State Officer, and also on a national committee supporting land grant colleges.
     Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 16, 2010, at 11:00 a.m., at the First United Methodist Church in Worthington, MN, with Pastor Gordon J. Orde officiating. Private family burial will be held in the Worthington Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 15, 2010, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington.

Memorials are preferred to the Honor Flight of Southwest Minnesota.
