Obituary for Mildred Ruth Onken

Round Lake, Minnesota

     Mildred Ruth Onken, 92, was born on November 18, 1917, in Heron Lake Township, Jackson County, Minnesota, the daughter of Alfred and Augusta (Lockner) Amundson. She attended Country School District 66. Mildred married Gerhard “Jerry” Onken on November 17, 1934, in Sioux Falls, SD. They settled in Ewington Township, where they farmed and trucked until 1947. They then moved to a farm in Round Lake Township. They retired in 1975 but continued to live on the farm. During their time on the farm, they raised fifteen foster children. In 1983, they moved into Round Lake, MN. Mildred moved to Halter Manor in 1996. She was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Round Lake, Bethel Ladies Aide, and the Senior Center. Mildred died on Friday, March 26, 2010, at the South Shore Care Center in Worthington, MN.
     Mildred is survived by her children, Sandra (Thomas) Lubben of Fulda, MN, and Kenneth of Minneapolis, MN; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; one sister, Gladys Flom of Minneapolis, MN; fifteen foster children, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry in 1985; her sister, Adeline Fox, her brother, Alvy Amundson, and several foster children.
     Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 30, 2010, at 10:00 a.m., at Bethel Lutheran Church in Round Lake, MN, with Rev. Benjamin Rucker officiating. Casket bearers will be Todd Lubben, Morgan Lubben, Gary Correll, Craig Correll, Jeff Pieschke, and Cassie Pieschke.  Honorary bearers will be Jill and Briana Lubben, Kristine and Kelli Correll, and Deb and Kelsey Pieschke.  Burial will be in the Round Lake Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Monday, March 29, 2010, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington, MN.
