Michelle (Shelly) Como, 39, passed away on October 22, 2021, in Luverne, Minnesota. Michelle was born in Worthington, Minnesota, on November 8, 1981, to Thomas and Evelyn Vogland Como, the first female in the Como family in several generations. She grew up in Worthington and was an active little girl, never allowing her brother to outdo her without a challenge. She was active in band and gymnastics throughout her school years, making many life-long friends.

Michelle graduated with honors from Worthington High School as part of the "smoke free" Class of 2000. Thereafter she attended the University of Minnesota in Duluth where she earned a BA Degree in History in 2004, again graduating with honors. We always said she went to college as far from home as she could without leaving Minnesota. Always up for a new adventure, following college graduation she traveled to Washington D.C. to further her education and obtained a Master's Degree in Museum Studies from George Washington University. She worked at two of the Smithsonian museums for a short time before returning to Minnesota in 2007. Unfortunately, the economy was struggling at that time and jobs in her field were hard to find. She worked for a short time in Spirit Lake, Omaha and Rochester.

Michelle had a quirky sense of humor and was known to keep others laughing. She loved to travel and was able to go to Germany with her high school class, New York City with her gymnastics team, and as many places with family as time would allow.

One of her favorite activities was baking decorated cakes and cookies. Many people benefited from her beautiful creations. Of course Peter loved being able to assist her with taste testing to be sure everything was acceptable. Peter and Shelly also shared their thriftiness. She challenged him on several occasions to "one-up" her on the bargains she found.

Being the only Granddaughter, Michelle had a very special relationship with her paternal Grandmother, Mary Como, and spent lots of time with her, both as a child and as an adult. She often helped her Grandmother feed the residents at the local nursing home. Shelly also treasured the opportunity to spend time with her niece, Hailey, and nephew, Carter. They were the light of her life!

She lived with her parents until the end of 2016 when she moved to CLA 216 (a Client Community Services group home) in Luverne, Minnesota. The staff and housemates at the group home became a part of her family. Michelle fought her battle with courage and determination. While disease robbed her of many things, it never took away her sense of humor and spirit of adventure.

Michelle is survived by her Mother, Evelyn, and Step-Father, Peter Anderson, along with her Brother and his family, Ryan, Linsey, Hailey, and Carter.

Michelle was predeceased by her Father, Grandparents, Aunt and Uncles.

Interment will be at a later date at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Seaforth, Minnesota.

We cannot convey in words our appreciation for the wonderful care she received from the staff at CLA 216. Her journey was made much more comfortable and bearable by the loving relationships with the residents and staff.

Memorials suggestions are the Client Community Services, Inc. Endowment Fund (PO Box 97, Worthington, MN 56187), or the South Dakota Chapter of the Huntington's Disease Society of America (PO Box 2675. Sioux Falls, SD 57101-2675).

Blessed be her memory!

Memorial services will be held on Friday, October 29, 2021, at 2: 30 p.m., at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington, MN, with Pastor Galen Smith officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
