Obituary for Mayme Rachel Smith Kilker

Mayme Smith Kilker, 99, entered Eternal Life on Monday, January 20, 2020, at Sunset Cottage in Worthington, MN
She was born November 4, 1920, to Clifford and Annetta (Moore) Ling. She married Joe Smith on February 17, 1939 they lived in Round Lake, MN. Four children were born to this union. Joe passed away November 11, 1977. She married Ralph W. Kilker on November 27, 1982, at the First Presbyterian Church in Round Lake, MN.
In 1946 Mayme and Joe started Smith Trucking. She helped drive truck for shelling corn and hauling livestock to the market. She also worked 25 years as bookkeeper at the Round Lake Elevator and retired in 1982. Ralph and Mayme spent winters in Florida, Arizona and southern Texas. She volunteered many hours and in August of 1997 received the Outstanding Senior Citizen of Nobles County award. In May of 1989 she received a certificate of Commendation for her volunteer work with the Retired Senior Volunteer Program from the state of Minnesota governor, Rudy Perpich.
Mayme loved to spend most of her time with her family; in the summer with Don, Gloria and family at Stonegate Lodge. They did lots of fishing and relaxing; she always talked about how much she enjoyed her calls from Bentonville. Keith, especially, always made her laugh; she was very proud of Phil and Rita and how they grew with Smith Trucking, and enjoyed being included in all of their family events. She enjoyed daily calls from Paulette in Sioux Falls, to hear about the latest news on their family with grandsons’ activities, especially the sports competitions. She even got to attend a high school basketball game in Hartley, Iowa. She was brought in the gym in her wheelchair and sat right on the courtside. She was honored.
A special thank you to Rita for all the care you gave our mother.
Mayme is survived by her son, Phillip (Rita) Smith of Worthington; daughter, Paulette (David) Daggett of Sioux Falls SD; son in law, Don Wiese of Paynesville, MN; daughter in law, Marcia Smith of Bentonville, AR; 15 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren and 11 great great grandchildren; sister, Margaret Sloan of Excelsior, MN; brother in law, Bob Paulson of Worthington, MN; Ralph's daughter, Carol Paplow of Windom, MN, and sister in law, Betty Taarud of Worthington, MN.
