Obituary for Maurine Elizabeth Perkins

     Maurine was born July 21, 1911 in Linn Grove, Iowa. At the age of 3, her family moved to the Worthington area where she lived for the rest of her long amazing life. She did leave Worthington for a brief time to attend college in Minneapolis to obtain her teaching degree. She taught at a country school south of Worthington and at various churches throughout the region. She also worked in her parent's diner where she met her husband, Wallace Perkins. They were married on January 16, 1937. She became a fulltime farmer's wife and mother to 4 children. Jerry (Terese) Perkins-Worthington, MN, Jim (Delores) Perkins-Morganton, GA., Karen (Bill) Johnson-Bradenton, Fl., and Dan (Cindy) Perkins-Alexandria, MN.
     Maurine's heart was committed to volunteering both in her church and her community. As a life-long member of the First United Methodist Church, Maurine served on numerous committees. In her community she volunteered her time and talents to: 4H, Triple 5, and the International Festival Committee, from whom she received an award for her service at the age of 92. She was the last survivor of the Worthington Class of 1928.  Maurine lived in Bradenton, FL during the winter months for 20 years.   She has 12 grandchildren, Julie (Jorge) Lopez, Bill (Melissa) Perkins, Jeffrey (Elise) Braaten, Paul (Stacey) Braaten, Michaela (Nicholas) Olson, Ian Perkins, Cole (Mary) Swenson, Bryce Swenson, Matthew Henkelman, Mark (Jena) Henkelman, Bridget Brunson, and Yvette (Chriss) Rhode. She also has 19 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. She is preceded in death by her parents, 2 sisters, her husband and her grandson, Michael Perkins.
     Memorial services will be held on Saturday, July 17, 2010, at 2:00 p.m., at the First United Methodist Church in Worthington, MN, with Rev. Gordon J. Orde officiating.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 16, 2010, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be sent to First United Methodist Church or Sunset Hospice Cottage Inc. of Worthington.
