Mary Lou Kunerth, age 67, was born June 3, 1953 in Worthington, MN, the daughter of Albyn “Al” and Ruth (Kraft) Kunerth. She was baptized at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Worthington. Mary attended St. Mary’s Catholic School in Worthington from kindergarten to eighth grade and then attended Worthington Public Schools for four years, graduating in 1971. After high school graduation, she attended Worthington Community College for the secretarial program and graduated in 1972. Mary then moved to Marshall and worked for Schwan’s for the next couple of years. She briefly lived in Colorado Springs, CO, with family and friends before moving to Napa Valley in California to work for her Aunt Janice and Uncle Jim Berger taking care of her Uncle Jim. In the winter of 1975, she moved back to Minnesota. Over the years Mary worked at Lake Haven Nursing Home, Client Community Services Inc., BTU Heating & Cooling, Palace Video, the School for the Deaf in Sioux Falls, SD, a Life Scapes Group Home in Sioux Falls, SD, before retiring from BTU Heating Cooling & Plumbing in June of 2018.
Mary enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, traveling, cooking, and stir frying. She was always on the hunt for the next great recipe. Mary loved spending time with her nieces and nephew, great nieces and nephews, and her great-great niece. She really enjoyed planning events for family and helping to coordinate the menus. Mary liked to fish and eat the days catch. She was known for her pranks and joking around and always had a smile on her face. Mary was one of the kindest, most loving and giving people you would ever meet, who always went out of her way for everyone and would share everything that she had. Mary passed away on Wednesday, July 1, 2020, at the South Shore Care Center in Worthington, MN.
Mary Lou is survived by Janet (Mike) Kingery, Willmar, MN; Carol Stewart, Harrington, DE; Gary (Carol) Kunerth, Worthington, MN; Kathy Aanenson, Slayton, MN; Anna Rasche, Worthington, MN; Sharon Kunerth, Worthington, MN; eight nieces and one nephew; fifteen great nieces and nephews; and one great-great niece. She was preceded in death by her mother Ruth Kunerth; her father Albyn “Al” Kunerth; her brothers Daryl “Bud” Kunerth, Marvin Kunerth, and baby Joseph Kunerth; and brothers-in-law Doug Aanenson, Michael Rasche, and Virgil Stewart.
Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, July 8, 2020, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Worthington, MN, with Father Jim Callahan officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be held in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Brewster, MN.
Benson Funeral Home in Worthington is in charge of the arrangements.
