Obituary for Mary Ann Williams

Mary Ann Williams was born on March 3, 1927 to Hugh and Josephine Williams on a farm near Brewster, Minnesota. Her early days, as seen in many photographs her parents arranged in photo albums, show a happy early life. They show her being held by her grandmother, playing dolls with her dad, and plinking with her brother Joe’s .22 rifle, among many other moments. Her parents also proudly collected newspaper articles about her accomplishments: in middle school Mary Ann played the part of Minerva Hollister in a 4-H Club play, she made the A honor roll in her senior year in Worthington High School, and she played the nuptial music at her cousin Florence’s wedding. After high school she moved to the Twin Cities and worked for the First National Bank there. When she came home for a visit on August 10, 1947 it made the newspaper.
Mary Ann was baptized at the Westminster Presbyterian Church on March 25, 1947.
Mary Ann began nurse’s training at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota in September 1948 and concluded in September 1951. She enjoyed the friendship of her fellow classmates her entire life. She later decided to teach grade school and returned to university to get teaching credentials. She taught elementary school children in Phoenix, Arizona until 1985, when she retired. She then moved to Worthington, Minnesota. Mary Ann could now easily visit her dad, Hugh, in Slayton or Joe and Lois in Avoca now instead of making long trips home from Arizona during the summer.
Mary Ann moved to Westbrook, Minnesota in about 2006 to be near family there. She passed away at home with family attending her in her final moments.
Mary Ann is preceded by her parents and brother in death. She is survived by Lois Williams, her sister-in-law, and seven nieces and nephews, many grand nieces and nephews, and several great grand nieces and nephews.
She was a blessing to all and will be missed.
Private family services will be held at a later date.
