Obituary for Marvin Wesley Philipp

Worthington, MN

      Marvin Wesley Philipp, 84, returned to his heavenly home on December 10, 2014 after a valiant battle with a long illness. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace.

      Marvin was born to the late Hervey and Freida Philipp, in Welcome, MN on March 9, 1930, and grew up on the family farm with three brothers and a sister. A veteran of The Korean War he served his country in the United States Army. He has lived in Worthington for 44 years. Marvin formerly worked as a Sales Manager in the Electronics Department of Rickbeil's until his retirement and was an active member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church.

      Survivors include Marian Elaine (Meyer) Philipp, mother of their five children; Dave Jonathan (LuAnn) Philipp of Worthington; Gail Lesley (Gerald) Dorna of Richmond, Indiana; Eddy Christopher Philipp of Worthington; Ross William Philipp of Worthington; and Jane Marianne (Ralph) Anderson of Worthington.

      Also surviving are ten grandchildren; Jeremiah Philipp, Jessica (Roman) Marjamaa, JoAnn Philipp, Jaclyn (JP) Sigmon, Johnny (Katie) Zehme, Erika Anderson (Ray Slinger), Tyler Anderson, Jonas, Jared and Julia Philipp. In addition Marvin has four great-grandchildren; Brody and Isabelle Sigmon, Piper Jo Marjamaa, and Hunter Slinger. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Mary Ann Philipp of Welcome.

      Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, one sister, two sisters-in-law, and a brother-in-law.

      Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2014, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 1505 Dover Street, Worthington, MN, with Pastor David McDonald officiating. Burial will be in the Sherburn Cemetery.

      Visitation will be held on Friday, December 12, 2014, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Worthington.

     Benson Funeral Home in Worthington is in charge of the arrangements.
