Obituary for Martin Kramer

Worthington, Minnesota

     Martin Kramer, 84, was born on January 10, 1925, near Ocheyedan, Iowa the son of Fred and Gertrude Kramer. He attended country schools in Osceola County, Iowa and Nobles County, Minnesota. Martin married Jennatte Kramer on August 25, 1948, in Worthington, Minnesota. Following marriage, the couple farmed near Brewster, Minnesota, for thirty-five years. In 1983 Martin and Jennatte retired from the farm and moved to Worthington. Martin had several part time jobs while living in Worthington, they included selling seed corn, working at Lakeshore Service and working for First State Bank Southwest besides taking care of Jennatte. Martin retired from all these jobs except for taking care of Jennatte in 2004.
     Martin also participated in several organizations including Kiwanis Club and the Gideons. One of Martins greatest joys was working with the Gideons, which he joined in 1985. Martin spoke about the Gideons at many churches and distributed bibles at truck stops and to children at schools.
     Martin and Jennatte lived at three different locations during their time in Worthington. The last location they lived at is 810 7th Avenue, which is where Martin passed away on January 8th, 2010.
     Martin is survived by two daughters, Audree (Scott) Carpenter of Garner, NC, and Janice (Darmon) Jones of Oakdale, MN; four sons, Derald (Deb) Kramer of Raymore, MO, Merlin (Tammie) Kramer of Sioux Falls, SD, Steve (Pam) Kramer of Stromsberg, NE, and Roger (Becky) Kramer of Worthington, MN; fourteen grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; two brothers, John Kramer of Holland, MI, and Richard Kramer of California; three sisters, Tracy Fransen of Worthington, MN, Althea Febus of Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN, and Gladys Halma of California, and special friend, Melody Ailts of Rushmore, MN. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jennatte in 2006 and his parents.
     Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 13, 2010, at 10:30 a.m., at the Christian Reformed Church in Worthington, MN, with Rev. Irwin VanLeeuwen officiating. Burial will be held at 9:15 a.m. on Wednesday at the Worthington Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-8 pm on Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington.
