Obituary for Mabel Rocella Konold

Mabel “Sally” Rocella Konold was born on September 3, 1917 the daughter of Isaac Everett and Anna (Feeley) Duncan in Dundee, Minnesota. She attended school in Dundee, Minnesota. After she completed school she worked as a telephone operator. On June 7, 1938 she was united in marriage to Harold Frederick Erwin Konold in Dundee, Minnesota. The family moved to Avoca in the fall of 1938. They then moved to Dundee in the spring of 1942. The family lived in Ocheyedan, Iowa for 20 years before moving to Worthington in February of 1967. Sally later worked as a cook at A&W and the Gobbler Café. From 1970 until 1980 Sally enjoyed working in the kitchen at Worthington Hospital. She then retired and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Sally passed away on Sunday, December 22, 2013 at South Shore Care Center in Worthington.
     Sally was a lifetime member of American Lutheran Church in Worthington. She enjoyed playing card games, especially Skip-Bo and 500. Sally was very crafty as well; crocheting hand towels for many people. Sally also enjoyed cooking and baking, divinity was one of the family favorites. Sally treasured the time she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be remembered as a very kind, caring, and giving person.
     Sally is survived by her daughter-in-law Marilyn Konold of Mt. Vernon, Illinois, daughter Sylvia (Dennis) Karsten of Bangs, Texas; daughter MaryAnn (Randy) Childers of Fairmont; son Douglas (Peggy) Konold of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and son Dwayne Konold of Moose Lake. Her grandchildren: Kari (Ray) Schaefer of Red Bud, Illinois, Kevin (Lori) Konold of White Bear Lake, Kyle (Jennifer) Konold of Las Vegas, Courtney (Miranda) Childers of Montrose, Paul (Krista) Childers of Clara City, Rebecca (Rodney) Ward of Red Deer, Alberta, Canada, and Kelly (Josh) Fagerness of Sioux Falls. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren: Marina, Sam, Adam, Emily, Caryn, Adele, Ronan, Korra, Cheyenne, Ethen, and Elsa.
     Sally is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, son Pearce and great-grandson Garrett Courtney Childers. Her siblings that have also preceded her in death are brothers Harry, Merrell, Lewis, Wayne, and Earl, and sisters Grace Leopold, Mary Bramel, Thelma Baarstad, and Leone Nimerfro. 
     A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 27, 2013, at 11:00 a.m., at Benson Funeral Home in Worthington, MN, with Pastor Gary Anderson officiating. Burial will be prior to the service at Memorial Gardens in Worthington.

Visitation will be held on Friday from 10:30 until the time of the service.
