Obituary for Lyle Leonard Kingery

Lyle Leonard Kingery, age 96, passed away on Sunday, August 11, 2019 at the Ecumen Meadows in Worthington, MN. Lyle was born on December 28, 1922 in the Worthington Hospital to Harley and Pearl (Apel) Kingery.
He spent his first few years near Rushmore and attended grade school in Rushmore, MN and then the Reading school. His family moved to the current family homestead when he was 7. He graduated from Worthington High School in 1940. He went on to complete one year of college at Worthington Junior College. Before marriage he worked at the Swift packing plant in Saint Paul. He also built houses in Bellevue, Nebraska.
Lyle married Dolores Lane on September 18, 1953. Lyle and Dolores lived on his family farm near Reading, MN where they raised their three children until 1983 when they built a new house west of Reading. They then moved to the Ecumen Meadows in the fall of 2015.
In his youth, Lyle was a 4-H member of the Reading Shooting Stars. He was an active member of Bethel Evangelical Church in Reading and served as an Elder, Deacon and Trustee. Lyle was also a member of the Golden Kiwanis and the Reading Senior Citizens. He shot pool on Friday nights at Meyers Pool Hall in Worthington, which is now known as The Long Branch and also shot pool later at the Wilmont Senior Citizen Center. He enjoyed bowling in his younger years on mixed couples and church league. Liking all sports including the Minnesota Vikings, golf and bowling, Lyle’s true passion was the Minnesota Twins. After moving to the Meadows, Lyle joined the choir and rarely missed a practice. Lyle loved farming and was proud to carry on that tradition with his sons. He and Dolores made many trips to the Twin Cities to visit their daughter, Cindy. They also traveled on numerous bus trips all over the United States, both as a couple, and with their daughter.
Lyle is survived by his daughter, Cynthia Kingery of Worthington; two sons, Gary Kingery (Linda) of Reading and Bruce Kingery (Gail) of Reading; six grandchildren, Sabrina (Brad) Sowles, Stacey (Justin) Rice, Heath (Alivia Rowley) Kingery, Ashly Kingery, Dana Kingery, and Shelby Kingery; six great-grandchildren, and two older sisters, Eloise Schauer of Albuequerque, NM and Shirley Brown of Albuequerque, NM. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Dolores.
