Obituary for Lucile Marie Darling

Worthington, MN

     Lucile Marie Darling, age 92, was born on January 5, 1921, in Sac County, IA, the daughter of George and Mary Vera (Prentice) Baxter. She graduated from Lytton High School in Lytton, IA. Lucile was active in 4-H and served several years as an adult 4-H leader. She received her teaching certificate from Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, IA. Lucile married Charles Darling on June 10, 1942, in Sac City, IA. They farmed in Iowa until 1955. Lucile later attended Mankato State and taught first grade in Brewster, MN, retiring in 1974. They lived on various farms in Nobles County until 1986 when they moved to Worthington. She was an educational assistant at Central Elementary School. Lucile was a very active lifetime member of the Methodist Church. She served on various committees, assisted with confirmation classes and was a member of UMW. She enjoyed volunteering with the Adult Literacy Program. “Grandma D” was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandma. She enjoyed time with her family, fishing, doing puzzles, and playing cards. Under hospice care, Lucile died on Sunday, June 9, 2013, at the South Shore Care Center in Worthington, MN.
      Lucile is survived by her children, Jerry (Edith) Darling of Marengo, IL, Sharon (Jim) Henderson of Worthington, MN, Marcia (Lynn) Reich of Red Wing, MN, and Lynn (Shelley) Darling of Rushmore, MN; ten grandchildren, Loren (Jen) Darling, Lori (Steve) Genkinger, Todd (Laura) Henderson, Chad (Sara) Henderson, Heidi (Tim) Bents, Krista (Shawn) Van Heuvelen, Jon (Hilary) Reich, Ben (Courtney) Reich, Seth (Kaia) Darling, and Brandy (Jason) Harberts, and 21 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, parents, and a brother, Raymond.
      Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at 10:30 a.m., at the First United Methodist Church in Worthington, MN, with Rev. Gordon J. Orde officiating. Lucile’s grandchildren will serve as casket bearers. Burial will be in the Memory Gardens Cemetery of Worthington.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 11, 2013, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington and also one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church.
