Louis Dale "Bud" Mier, age 90, was born on April 8, 1924, on the family farm, the son of Lou and Lena (Timko) Mier. Bud was the name that he was called most of his life – given to him by an uncle when he was just a young boy. Bud attended country school in Minneota Township District #41 through eighth grade, and finished his education at Lakefield High School. Bud married Betty Hausmann on December 29, 1943, in Lakefield. Betty passed away on January 3, 2006, after 63 years of marriage. Bud and Betty farmed in Minneota Township until 1954 and then moved to Sioux Valley, where they lived until 1987 when they moved to Lakefield. Bud continued to enjoy helping John on the farm. Bud enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. When he was not farming, he enjoyed his winter travels to Texas, bowling, golfing, dancing, and playing many games of cards. Bud passed away on Tuesday, December 2, 2014, at the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD.

Bud is survived by his four children, Linda (Rusty) Adams of Tulsa, OK, Don (Jann) Mier of Plymouth, MN, Mary (Randy) Wilson of Round Lake, MN, and John (Joy) Mier of Sioux Valley, MN; eleven grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren, and special friend, Betty Leu of Jackson, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty; grandson, Jeremy Mier, and his sisters, Irene and Fern.
