Obituary for Lorenzina Duque

Worthington, MN

      Lorenzina “Lori” Ferrara Duque, age 83, was born on March 21, 1931, in Savona, Italy, the daughter of Romolo and Luigia Ferrara. She grew up in Savona during WWII where she lost her parents and was raised by her brothers. In the early 1950’s, she moved to England where she went to college. There she married her husband and in 1956, they entered the United States and lived in numerous states before settling in Minnesota. They were later divorced. Lori moved to Worthington, MN in 1973. She had numerous jobs including working at the crippled children school, bandbox dry cleaning, the gobbler café, and also enjoyed babysitting for many children. Lori became a proud citizen in 1984. She was an avid reader, enjoyed staying current on political affairs, and loved spending time with family and friends. In Lori’s last days she stated, “My children and grandchildren are my life.” Lori died on Tuesday, July 15, 2014, at Golden Horizons in Worthington, MN.

      Lori is survived by her four children, Jorge Duque of Worthington, MN, Sue Echternach of Reading, MN, Nancy (Dan) Sowles of Brewster, MN, and Lori (Gerald) Murphy of Lake Park, IA; six grandchildren, Brian Echternach, Jessica (Paul) Simonian, Brad (Sabrina) Sowles, Scott (Kim) Echternach, Lynn Murphy, and Justin Murphy; nine great grandchildren, and one sister, Carla Giuseppina of Albisola, Italy. Her two brothers’ whereabouts are unknown at this time. She is also survived by her best friend, Char Schmidt of Jeffers, MN. Lori was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Maria Lole.

      Memorial services will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2014, at 10:00 a.m., at the Bethel Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Reading, MN, with Rev. K. W. Gallagher officiating. Honorary bearers will be Brian Echternach, Brad Sowles, Scott Echternach, Justin Murphy, Paul Simonian, Al Thiel, and Hunter Echternach. Burial will be in the Summit Lake Township Cemetery near Reading.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2014, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., at the Bethel Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Reading, MN.

Benson Funeral Home in Worthington is in charge of the arrangements.
