Obituary for Leona Rose Vogt

Worthington, MN

     Leona Rose Vogt, 94, was born on January 15, 1916, in Charter Oak, IA, the daughter of Edward and Marie (Knop) Ullerich. At the age of 15, she moved to Chicago to be a housekeeper and a nanny. Leona and Carl dated while he was in the military and were married on March 2, 1944, in Worthington, after he was discharged from the military. They farmed their whole life together and retired in 1979. Leona enjoyed gardening, cooking, and baking. She was an active member of the St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church Ladies Aid. Leona died on Wednesday, July 28, 2010, at the Sanford Regional Hospital in Worthington, MN.
     Leona is survived by two sons, Walter Vogt and Norman Vogt, both of Worthington, along with one sister, Marilyn Johnson of Marion, IA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl in 1987, her parents, and two sisters and two brothers.
     Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 31, 2010, at 2:00 p.m., at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Worthington, MN, with Pastor Tom Braun officiating.  Casket bearers will be Richard Vogt, Jerry Vogt, Donald Hopp, Brian Kienast, Mark Petersen, and Edward Ullerich.  Honorary bearers will be Gary Kienast, James Kienast, and Curtis Johnson.  Burial will be in the Worthington Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 30, 2010, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington.
