Obituary for Leola Minnie Lowe

Rushmore, Minnesota      Leola Minnie Lowe, 82, was born on June 6, 1923, in Brewster, Minnesota, the daughter of Henry and Sophia Obermoeller Gunther.  She grew up on a farm and attended country school in rural Brewster and graduated from Brewster High School.  Leola married Philip Larry Lowe on December 17, 1941, in Brewster.  They started their family and lived in Brewster until 1961, when they moved to Rushmore, Minnesota, where they owned and operated Lowe’s Hardware Store until 1972.  Leola then worked as a teacher’s aid for many years at the Rushmore Elementary School.  She was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Rushmore, where she served on the Altar Guild and Women’s Auxiliary.  She enjoyed her family, gardening, crafts, and her collections of dolls, bells, thimbles and plates.  Leola died on Tuesday, May 30, 2006, at the Crossroads Care Center in Worthington, Minnesota.     Leola is survived by three sons, Larry (Jean) Lowe, of Aberdeen, South Dakota, Gary (Judy) Lowe, of Solway, Minnesota, and Kevin (Arlene) Lowe, of Worthington, Minnesota; one daughter, Debra (Kenyon) Schmidt, of Shenandoah, Texas; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; one brother, LeRoy (Lucille) Gunther, of Brewster, Minnesota, and one sister, Marcelline Luebben, of Lakefield, Minnesota.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Philip, in September of 2002, her parents, and one infant sister.     Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2006, at 10:30 a.m., at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Rushmore, Minnesota, with the Rev. Wayne Krohe officiating.  Burial will be in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Brewster, Minnesota.Visitation will be held on Friday, June 2, 2006, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington and on Saturday, June 3, 2006, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Rushmore, Minnesota.
