LaVonne Foss, 77, Worthington, MN, died Friday, April 24, 2015, at Wheatcrest Hills Care Center in Britton, SD.
     LaVonne Joyce Manzey was born to Henry and Lanore (Huse) Manzey on June 6, 1937 on the family farm in rural Sherburn, MN. She graduated from Sherburn High School in 1955, and received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Hamline University in 1959.
     LaVonne married Arlen Foss of Jasper, MN, in 1958. Arlen was ordained as a Lutheran pastor in 1960, and LaVonne played the organ and directed the choir in the churches they served. She also worked as a registered nurse at hospitals in Tyler and Madelia, and was the director of risk management/quality assurance at Worthington Regional Hospital. LaVonne loved working in her vegetable and flower gardens, decorating her home (and the homes of her children), sewing clothes and home décor, and spending time with her family. She was beloved for her kindness, her gentle touch, and her giving heart.
     Grateful for having shared her life are her brother, Ron (Ardys) Manzey of Trimont, MN; two sisters, Eva Lou (Harold) Schmidt of Sioux Falls, SD, and Jolene Manzey of Northfield, MN; one son, Craig Foss of Scottsdale, AZ; one daughter, Marta (Larry) Telkamp of Britton, SD; and one granddaughter, Katherine Telkamp. LaVonne was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
     A celebration of LaVonne’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 4, 2015 at American Lutheran Church in Worthington, MN, with Pastor Bailey Fossum officiating. Visitation with the family present will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 3, 2015 also at American Lutheran Church.
     Benson Funeral Home in Worthington is in charge of the arrangements.
