Obituary for Kenneth Lawrence McNab

Worthington, MN

Kenneth Lawrence McNab, 86, was born to Phillip and Mathilda Markman McNab on March 21, 1926 in Worthington, MN. He graduated from Worthington High School in 1944. That July he joined the United States Navy. He served in the Pacific and was discharged in June of 1946. When he returned home he joined the family business, P.A. McNab and Son Trucking. During this time, he met Virginia Oswood, a nursing student from Montevideo, MN. They were married on December 6, 1947.
Ken remained in the trucking business until July 1965, when he began work at Worthington Motors, the local Ford dealership. He ultimately acquired an ownership stake in the business and became its vice president in 1971. He left the dealership in 1981, but remained loyal to Ford for the rest of his life. He lived in Worthington during his retirement except for the winter months, preferring the winters of Texas over those of Minnesota. Ken loved fishing, camping, and traveling the U.S. in the many different RVs he owned throughout the years.
Ken was a member of Haack-Good American Legion Post 496 in Bigelow and was passionate about veterans' issues. He was on the planning committee for the Nobles County Freedom Veterans Memorial and the Southwest Minnesota Honor Flight. Most of all, Ken was devoted to time spent with family and countless friends.
Ken died on Saturday, October 20, 2012 at Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at First Lutheran Church in Worthington, MN with the Rev. Richard Ricker officiating. Interment will follow at Worthington Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Randy Wilson, Dan Doyscher, Dean Noren, Steve McNab, Justin Nissen, and Phil Markman will serve as casket bearers.
Ken is survived by his son, Mark McNab and his wife, Betty, of Coon Rapids, MN; two grandsons, Lance McNab and his wife, Stacy, of St. Cloud, MN, and Kris McNab of Worthington, step-granddaughter, Heather Landrus of New Brighton, MN; his great granddaughter, Alison McNab, of St. Cloud, MN; and his special friend Margaret Doyscher of Jackson, MN; and numerous cousins, nephews, and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Nobles County Veteran's Freedom Memorial or Hospice Cottage Inc., Po Box 203, Worthington, MN  56187.

Visitation will be from 4-7 pm on Monday, October 22, 2012 at the Benson Funeral Home and also from 12-1 pm at the church on Tuesday.
