      Kenneth F. Jenkins was born May 20, 1922 in Worthington, MN to Edward and Kathryn Jenkins the fourth of six children. From early on he was always ambitious and energetic. As a young boy he had a paper route, sometimes three at a time. He had a bicycle shop and worked as a night clerk at Adams Hotel. He attended Worthington schools where he excelled in football and pole vaulting. He held two district records in pole vaulting for many years. He married Gloria Bauchle January 31, 1941 in Sibley Iowa and in this union they had four children. He worked in a service station in his early marriage and owned one of his own in Willmar, MN for a year and a half. After that he drove a rendering works truck until he was drafted in 1944. He spent a year and a half in the service as a field lineman, six months of that in Germany. After he came home he went back to driving rendering work trucks until he bought another gas station in Hartley, IA and owned this for a year and a half. He moved back to Worthington where he started bricklaying with Hudson Brothers. He was eventually hired by Henry Carlson Company in Sioux Falls as a bricklayer, then became a foreman and eventually superintendent. He traveled back and forth to Sioux Falls every day for 30 years.

      In 1956 Ken and Gloria bought a country school and remodeled it into a beautiful brick home where they lived for many years. He retired in 1986 and they moved into Worthington. They spent many winters in Arizona where Ken enjoyed playing tennis, golf, cards, and shooting pool, and made many friendships. Ken and Gloria square danced for 40 years with the Worthington Turkey Trotters. They also belonged to the National Square Dancers Camping Club. Ken was a square dance caller for many years. He also enjoyed fishing and camping.

      Ken was a lifetime member of the VFW and the American Legion Club. He went on the first honor flight to Washington DC with son Jim and other family members. He was an 80 year plus member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church. Ken died on Thursday, March 31, 2016, at the Sogge Good Samaritan Home in Windom, MN.

      He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Belda and Gladys, brother Lee, and daughter Janice. He is survived by his wife Gloria, daughter Jerry Brewer of Craig, CO, sons Jim Jenkins (Sandy) of Farmington, MN and Jeff Jenkins of Brewster, MN, 14 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 27 great great-grandchildren, oldest sister Edeth Jenkins, and youngest sister Floretta (Clifford) Bowman..

      Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 5, 2016, at 10:30 a.m., at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Worthington, MN, with Pastor Galen Smith officiating. Casket bearers will be Ken’s grandsons, Greg Brewer, LeeLand Mischke, Scott Mischke, Kevin Mischke, Brad Jenkins, Travis Jenkins, Nick Jenkins, and Justin Jenkins. Burial will be in the Worthington Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

      Visitation will be held on Monday, April 4, 2016, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington and one hour prior to the service at the church.

      In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to Westminster Presbyterian Church.
