Obituary for Kenneth Eugene Meyer

Round Lake, MN

      Kenneth “Sonny” Meyer, age 72, passed away on Wednesday, February 3, 2016, at Keelson Harbour in Spirit Lake, IA, after a battle with cancer.

      Kenneth was born on November 3, 1943, in Worthington, MN, the son of Kenneth and Mildred (Beuthien) Meyer of Round Lake, MN. He grew up on the family farm and attended school in Sioux Valley. Sonny took over the Meyer family farm in the early 1970’s and farmed until he retired in 2012.

      After meeting through friends, Kenneth married Maxine Baird on August 20, 1965, in Worthington, MN. They lived in rural Sioux Valley before moving to the family homestead.

      Kenneth enjoyed restoring old cars and attending car shows and swap meets. He was a lifelong member of Sioux Valley Trinity Lutheran Church.

      Kenneth is survived by his wife, Maxine of Spirit Lake, IA; two children, three grandchildren, and one great grandchild, Gene (Angie) Meyer of Round Lake, MN and their family, Megan, Chelsea, Brady, and Kamryn and Cindy Meyer of Sioux Falls, SD. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Phyllis.

      Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 8, 2016, at 10:30 a.m., at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Sioux Valley, MN, with Rev. Jerry Gauthier II officiating. Casket bearers will be Mark Hammer, Tom Luing, Joe Rossow, Larry Nesseth, Matt Luing, and Brady Meyer. Honorary bearer will be Scott Luing. Burial will be in the Round Lake Cemetery.

      Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 7, 2016, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington, MN.

      Benson Funeral Home in Worthington is in charge of the arrangements.

Service is moved to Tuesday, February 9, 2016. 10:30 am.
