Obituary for Joyce Lorrene Duitsman

Worthington, MN     Joyce Lorrene Scott Duitsman, 78, passed away on Monday, April 27, 2009, at Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Fulda, MN. She was born on August 22, 1930, in Worthington, MN, to Chester and Minnie (Olson) Scott. Joyce graduated from Worthington High School in 1949. She began working as a teenager in her family’s grocery store. She continued working in local businesses like Landers, Ben Franklin, Michael’s Restaurant, Ace Hardware, Holiday Inn, and the Worthington Regional Hospital until her retirement.     Joyce married George Duitsman on December 2, 1951, in Sibley, IA. She was an active member of Worthington Christian Church. She loved arts and crafts, gardening, writing poetry, and spending time with family and friends.     Joyce is survived by one son: Stephen (Cec) Duitsman, of Worthington; four daughters: Kathleen Huber, of Worthington; Cindy (Marty) Waage, of Round Lake; Vicki Scarbrough, of Hixson, TN; and Sheryl (Ronald) Sternke, of Worthington; 21 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; one sister: Lois (Roland) Schockweiler, of Kansas City, MO, and one aunt: Lula Knowles, of Liberty, MO. She was preceded in death by her husband, George; one daughter, Debra Bristow; her parents; and her grandparents.     Visitation was held on Friday, May 1, 2009, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., at the Worthington Christian Church in Worthington, MN, followed by the funeral service at 2:30 p.m., with Ron Ahlgren officiating. Pallbearers are Kevin Bristow, Kevin Burdeinei, Duane Swenhaugen, Aaron Haithcock, Martin Waage, Andrew Sternke, Andy Lathen, and Jesse Sternke. Burial was in the Worthington Cemetery. Benson Funeral Home in Worthington is in charge of the arrangements.
