Joyce Dorraine Rogers, age 89, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 6, 2020, at her residence in Worthington, MN. She was born on June 16, 1931, in Aberdeen, SD, the daughter of Orville and Shirley (Sheffler) Smith. Joyce moved with her parents to Reading, MN at three years of age, where she attended eight years of school in Reading which was District 7. She graduated from Worthington High School in 1949.
Joyce married Frank Rogers on January 30, 1950. They farmed north of Worthington for seventeen years until Frank’s death in 1967. Joyce later moved into Worthington where their five children graduated from high school. She continued to be active, enjoying life, friends and family, especially watching her five children and grandchildren play in various sports. She loved the Twins, Vikings, Gophers, and all the WHS sports.
Church and faith were important parts of Joyce’s life. She was an active member of Bethel Presbyterian Church in Reading where she was a charter member. She held the office of Moderator for the Women’s organization most of fifty years.
Joyce is survived by one daughter and four sons, Debra Stough of Worthington, Tom Rogers of Worthington, Mike (Barb) Rogers of Worthington, Joe (Kim) Rogers of Worthington, and Dan (Lisa) Rogers of Fulda, MN; eleven grandchildren, Holly, Braxton, Shay, Frank, Clint, Katie, Becky, Jenny, Tanner, Torey, and Turner; seven great grandchildren, Ben, Melissa, Andrew, Camryn, Charlie, Ellie, and Scottie; four sisters, Essie (John) Boltjes, Nancy Bertrand (Duff), Sharon (Corky) (Dick) Robinson, all of Worthington and Sandy (Larry) Brouwer of Edgerton, MN, and many nieces and nephews.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Frank; her parents; brother, Jack Smith; twin sister, Jean Christensen; sister, Shirley (Pudge) Comnick; son-in-law, Butch Stough, and granddaughter, Lyndsey Rogers.
Services for immediate family only will be held. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date on June 12, 2021.
Benson Funeral Home in Worthington is in charge of the arrangements.
