Obituary for John "Jack" Leo Strouth

Service will be live on Benson Funeral Home Facebook page , Thursday, October 15, at 10:00 am.

John “Jack” Leo Strouth, age 76, was born on February 9, 1944 in Sibley, Iowa, the son of Leo and Fern (Maxwell) Strouth. They moved to their farm near Brewster in 1949. He attended Brewster School, graduating in 1962. Jack married Linda McCall on February 19, 1966 at Sacred Heart Church in Brewster. Jack farmed and raised livestock all his life, starting out with his dad when he was young and continuing on after his father retired in 1994. Jack enjoyed antique tractors, buying and having them restored.
Jack was a member of the American Legion for 51 years. He spent 6 years in the National Guard. He drove school bus for Brewster Schools for 42 years and was transportation supervisor for several of those years. The kids brought so much joy and entertainment to his life. Jack owned and managed his own parking lot striping business. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren, the annual trip to the lake, traveling with family – affectionately known as the “six pack”, playing cards, and having coffee with his buddies at Blue Line. Jack was an active member of Sacred Heart Church as an usher and involved in church committees. Jack was a part of the AA program and was proud of his 39 years of sobriety. He was generous and always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. He could have a conversation with anyone and enjoyed getting to know people. He valued honesty and hard work and set an example of both. Jack passed away on Thursday, October 8, 2020, at home surrounded by his loving family after a courageous 6 ½ year battle with cancer.
Jack is survived by his wife Linda of Brewster, six children, daughter Michelle (Steve) Gass, Bird Island, MN and their children Heather (Brock) Nelson, Mark (Becky) Gass and Kelli Gass; daughter Lisa (Joel) Kath, Faribault, MN and their children Taylor, Trevor, Adam Vos and Jackson Kath; daughter Sonya (Jim) Becker, Dundee, MN and their children Ethan, Eli, Marissa and Jonah; son Michael (Deandra) Strouth, Rogers, MN and their children Noah, Connor and Logan; daughter Brenda (Scott) Sorenson, Luverne, MN and their children Jade, Jacey, Makenzie Smith and Tristan and Tucker Sorenson; son John (Faithann) Strouth, Andover, MN and their son Gray; 4 great grandchildren; and 5 siblings, Joseph (Diann) Strouth, Greeley, CO; Kay (Larry) Hageman, Howard, SD; James (Karen) Strouth, Kandiyohi, MN; Robert (Melody) Strouth, Worthington, MN; and Patrick (Lori) Strouth, Sioux Falls, SD; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
