Obituary for Joan Marcella Sauer

Joan Marcella Sauer, 84, was born on March 20, 1936, in Storden, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Harry “Jim” and Ethel “Marcella” Grapevine Benjamin. Joan married Anthony Leander Sauer on October 31, 1953, in Worthington, Minnesota, and has lived there since.
Joan, a loving mother, chose raising a family and creating a home as her life occupation. She loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed playing cards, board games, reading, camping, and sitting by Lake Okabena.
Joan died Saturday, February 13, 2021, at her home, surrounded by family.
She is survived by five children, Catherine (John) Juza, of Worthington, Laurie (Rodney) DeBoer, of Fairmont, Minnesota, Rev. Deanna Voehl, of Fort Pierce, Florida, Dr. Craig Sauer (Julie), of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Todd Sauer, of Worthington; eleven grandchildren, Jenni Waterbury, Anthony Sauer, Amanda Suggs, Matthew Sauer, Connor Voehl, Sara Weis, Danielle Hindt, Melissa Graif, Alicia Sauer, Joshua Sauer, Austin Sauer; and fourteen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony Sauer, one daughter, Christine Marie Sauer, one great-grandson, Mason Weis, her parents, one sister, and two brothers.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, June 5, 2021 at 11:00 AM, with Rev. Deanna Voehl officiating. Urn bearers will be Dr. Craig Sauer and Todd Sauer. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Worthington.
Benson Funeral Home in Worthington is in charge of the arrangements.
