Obituary for James Leslie Larson

James Leslie Larson was born on October 19, 1941 to Leslie and Helen (Miner) Larson at Worthington Hospital. James grew up on the farm and went to District 23 Country School in Indian Lake Township for 8 years and graduated in 1959 from Round Lake High School. Following high school, Jim farmed with his father until moving into Worthington in 1970. He worked at Sather’s for 37 years in the packaging department as Assistant Manager.
Jim married Margaret Brounko on October 3, 1987 and they raised three children together in Round Lake. He will be remembered as a thoughtful, understanding husband and father with a caring, kind heart and a booming voice.
Jim enjoyed woodworking, fishing and camping trips, family vacations, and supporting his children’s sports teams and activities. He enjoyed going on car rides and looked forward to mornings at coffee with his friends. He was dedicated to his faith and his church, serving as a Trustee for many years and most recently as a Deacon at Indian Lake Baptist. He was known as a loyal friend, neighbor, and community member. He enjoyed helping people and was always willing to lend a hand to others, volunteering at The Banquet, Meals on Wheels, Manna Food Pantry, and church mission trips.
Jim passed away on July 12, 2020 at the Sunset Cottage in Worthington surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife, Margaret; three children, Sarah Janssen, Jeremy (Katie) Janssen, and Ashley Janssen; four grandchildren, Avery, Trae, Hajer, and Azilah; two sisters, Ann Holcomb and Marjorie Larson, and his loyal dog, Duke. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, John Holcomb.
